Airwave Oscillometry System (AOS™)

Airwave-Oscillometry (AOS) is a novel method to measure lung function without patient effort. To obtain an accurate, detailed assessment of the respiratory system, the unique, portable tremoFlo™ C-100 AOS system briefly superimposes a gentle, barely noticeable oscillatory wave on top of the patient’s spontaneous breathing. Throughout the measurement, the patient just continues to breathe normally. AOS is the most advanced implementation of the so-called “Forced Oscillation Technique” (FOT).

Contrary to conventional methods for measuring lung function, AOS captures not only large airways but also the small airways in the lung periphery. It is increasingly recognized that assessment of the small airways may be a useful tool for earlier detection of lung disease and exacerbations, and to help differentiate between different lung diseases. Applications for the tremoFlo AOS include situations where patient cooperation is difficult or even impossible, such as the assessment of preschool children and the elderly.
